2012 Powerdrive Monthly Reports
January
This year we have 7 members, which 3 are from last year and all the rest are first year participation. This year we decided to work on the car that the class from last year started. The last year class had a good start on it. When we started out in August it was just the frame and all the steering was done on it. We started by putting wire on and then moved on to putting aluminum trim coil on. The next step we went on to was bondo which took quite some time. After sanding the bondo smooth we got some primer and the inside and outside of the car. With white primer in the inside and gray primer on the outside. Then we cut out lexan to go in the 5 little windows that we have on the car. One day we all sat down in the classroom and looked up designs that we could paint the car. We decided to paint the car with Oregon football colors with lime green, flat black, and gloss black.
February
In February we have been spending most of our time on our second car which we have gotten a lot of accomplished on. This is because our first car is mostly done and all we need is a paint job and then we will be hooking up our steering, breaking and ignition systems and then the car will be completed in the next month. We will be getting this first car up and working and will be test driving it by the end of March. Each student has helped in many different ways to get this car completed and we cannot wait to see how the car turns out.
March
In the month of March we worked on getting the brakes to work better. Then we put the steering back on and the motor back in the car. Next we tested the motor out and tail lights to make sure they worked. The first race is April 7 in West Point and starts at 11:00. This will be the race were we find out if we have to change anything with the car to make it more comfortable for the driver and safer. We hope to see you all on the seventh of April to cheer us on!
